Description

THE ORIGIN

Dug from the riverbanks. The clay is heavy, iron-rich, and unforgiving. An artisan throws a lump onto a kick-wheel. Hands caked in wet mud shape the walls. The kiln burns olive pits and wood scraps. The heat is inconsistent. This creates variations. No two batches are the same. It is dirty work.

THE BUILD

Run your thumb over the rim. You feel the dip where the potter’s finger lifted the clay. The glaze is thick and glossy. It pools at the bottom. The paint work is rapid. Brushstrokes are visible. The lines of the faces don’t always meet. That is the point.

  • Vibrant lead-free glaze applied by brush
  • Surface retains the cold, dense feel of fired earth
  • Rims are irregular and unrefined showing the raw terracotta beneath

THE FUNCTION

Hold it with two hands. It retains heat well. Use it for soup. Use it for cereal. Do not put this in the microwave. The clay pockets will overheat. Do not put it in the dishwasher. The detergent is too harsh. Wash it with water and soap. Dry it with a cloth.
