Description
THE ORIGIN
Sourced from the ancient workshops of Fes. The clay is dug from local riverbanks, heavy and iron-rich. Potters work the wheel with their feet. No electricity here. Just muscle and mud. The firing process uses olive pits for fuel. This creates variations in the white slip that machines can’t replicate. It is primal work. You can smell the smoke on the unboxed crates.
THE BUILD
The surface is unpolished. The matte finish feels like dried earth. It absorbs light rather than reflecting it. The rope detailing is hand-rolled and applied wet. You can see the thumbprints where the artisan pressed the clay against the vessel wall. Small loop handles are decorative, distinct from the body. The base tapers down to a solid foot. It sits heavy.
- Finished with a porous matte white slip that breathes.
- Surface texture is gritty and cool to the touch.
- Walls are thick and dense to insulate root systems.
THE FUNCTION
These are for soil and roots. The porous clay wicks moisture. Do not seal it if you want your plants to thrive. Water flows through. Place a saucer underneath if using indoors to catch runoff. The unglazed finish will develop a patina over time. It stains. It cracks. It lives.
