Description
THE ORIGIN
This didn’t come from a mold. It came from the dark. The artisan lost his sight in a car crash. Now he works the Moroccan earth by feel alone. The workshop is dusty. The clay is cold. He rolls long snakes of mud and stacks them. He measures symmetry with the span of his fingers. This is pure muscle memory converted into form.
THE BUILD
The surface is a map of pressure. Inspect the ridges. They aren’t perfectly uniform. That’s the point. The black finish is matte. It swallows light rather than reflecting it. The structure is dense. It feels heavy in the hand, anchored by the weight of the earth it was dug from. The diagonal ribs cut aggressively against the horizontal bands.
- deeply textured surface that demands to be touched
- matte black finish with a dry, stone-like feel
- heavy, thick-walled construction for maximum stability
THE FUNCTION
Stand it on the floor. Put it on a heavy console. It dominates the space. Do not fill it with water; it is porous. Use it for dried branches or leave it empty as a totem. Dust it with a dry cloth. Keep it away from high traffic areas where it might be kicked. It is solid, but it is clay.
